Why Scan Slides and Negatives?
Did you know that in 2003, Kodak announced that they will no longer produce and sell slide projectors? Before long, it will be nearly impossible to buy a slide projector or replacement bulbs. Also while you may believe your negaties are safe, time and the elements are destroying them as well. Soon they will be faded, scratched, or will have spots due to mold and other environmental hazards which will cause you to lose your memories.
Film Negative Scans
Scanning film negatives gives you a better result than just scanning a photo. This is because you are using the original image, not a second-generation copy. You will get much better detail and the image will be sharper. With our process your negatives will be scanned in 1800 dpi (pixels per inch) and then saved and indexed on a photo cd in standard .jpg format. (Upon request, we can scan in 3600 dpi and save in other formats such as .tif) Turnaround time for negatives is usually 5-7 days once the order is received and confirmed.
Slide Scans
Slides are scanned the same way as your film negatives. We offer the same dpi and saving formats. However, because we can only scan a limited number of slides at a time the turnaround time for slides is a couple of days longer than that for negatives. A typical slide project may take 7-10 days from the time the order is received and confirmed. Also as with the film negatives, we will provide as many disks as necessary to complete your archival, free of charge.
Indexed Photo Album
CD photos, like digital ones, are assigned a number instead of a description. As an additional option and for your convenience you can get one of our indexed photo albums for quick reference. The photo albums are hard cover and contain an at-a-glance printout of each photo on your disk as well as its corresponding number. Each photo CD can hold approximately 400 high quality images and if ordered with the indexed photo album will be affixed to the front inside cover for easy access.
